Dear Mom,
Today, we celebrate you. As my first love, best friend, #1 fan and a million other things in between, you have consistently been there for me through every stage of my life. And while it’s impossible to boil down a lifetime of gratitude and love into a single letter, I hope that this letter expresses just how loved and appreciated you are.
Despite all of the nonsense I put you through over the years, thank you for always being there for me. Whether it’s a comforting home cooked meal or words of encouragement, you’re always here for me in more ways than I can even count.
Thank you for showing me what it means to be loved unconditionally, even in the times I wasn’t worthy of it. You showed me that kindness is always possible – from taking on my burdens as your own to being my biggest, greatest and sometimes only cheerleader.
I’m sorry for all of the times I didn’t trust in you, even when it was clear that you only had my best interests at heart. I can’t even list the number of times I thought I was strong enough to do things on my own and turned you away, even when I knew that you went out of your way to help me out.
From the hours you spent cleaning up after me (I’m talking about the phase where I felt the need to write my name on EVERYTHING) to the countless nights you stayed up worrying about my whereabouts, I know that raising me wasn’t always easy and I’m sorry for all of the times I rebelled against you – sometimes for my own entertainment.
I’m sorry that it took me so long to realize how hard and demanding being a mom really is and for not thanking you enough along the way. Even during the toughest of times, you consistently display your strength, resilience and positivity. Despite all of the curveballs that life throws your way, you always seem to have a solution.
You are the perfect balance of love, honesty, straight-talk and discipline – and seem to know exactly what I need at any given moment. You’re also the glue that holds our family together with your endless patience, selflessness and unwavering support.
You truly are one of my life’s greatest gifts and I only hope that I can have the same impact on my kids as you’ve had on me.
Happy Mother’s Day to my biggest hero. May your life always be filled with joy and happiness.
