Who Owns Your Next Thought?

The obvious answer is you do. But think about it. Do you really? Or have you abdicated control to all the pressures of your world.

Is it your future? The next meeting. Your to-do list. Your kids. Your weekend. Your friends. The potential opinions of others. The doubt. The expectations.

Is it your past? Regrets. The ways things coulda, woulda, shoulda gone. The blame. The injustice.

What would it take to welcome back the present moment into our thoughts? To welcome back the humanity with which we treat so many people save ourselves?

So much, yet so little.

A simple yet elusive shift towards awareness and kindness.

An awareness of not only the content of our thought patterns but also the tone with which the message is delivered.

What plagues me is the constant rhetoric that I could always be doing more. Eeking out more of each day and each moment. Translation: what I am doing is never enough. Or even worse: I am never enough.

Will I be able to provide for my family in the long term? Will I be able to send my girls to college? Will I have the impact I am looking to make in this lifetime?

None of these questions are answerable in any given moment. My guess would be that neither are most of yours. But this level of awareness is both a privilege and a gift.

So let us wrestle back control of our thoughts. Bring them back to the fullness of the present moment. Let go of things past and things yet to pass.

How about you?

Are your repeated thought patterns serving you?

Are you aware they are repeating?

Do you know how you can take back control?

Your life needs you back.

Let’s do this!
