Hand over the cape. Your brand is not the hero.

Blog storytelling your brand is not the hero.

Storytelling is not new – but its role in marketing and business is evolving. As content continues to dominate, we have realized the simple fact that our brains work better on fiction.

The harsh reality is that when you position your brand as the hero, you are competing with your customer. Your customer only cares about how you will meet their needs.

Tell me facts. I won't remember.
Give me a list. I'll remember a few items.
Tell me a story. My brain fires and functions differently‒ Not only will I remember, I'll understand.

While most businesses have started to incorporate storytelling into their marketing strategy, many are making the mistake of featuring themselves as the hero. It is an easy and common mistake - I daresay a tempting mistake. Who doesn’t want to tell a story where they wear the cape, find the treasure, get the kitten out of the tree – especially when you are footing the bill.

The harsh reality is that when you position your brand as the hero, you are competing with your customer. Your customer only cares about how you will meet their needs.

Don’t worry. As the guide who offers up a solution to meet their needs, your brand is still a main character. But, you need to step aside and let your customer be the hero.
